Preview:

Dynamite airs tonight (June 26) with a live show from KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York. This is the final episode of Dynamite during the five week build towards Forbidden Door, which takes place on Sunday (June 30).

Kyle O’Reilly goes one-on-one with Zack Sabre Jr. on tonight’s episode of Dynamite. O’Reilly has wrestled in 17 matches in AEW since he returned in March from an injury that kept him sidelined for nearly two years. 12 of those matches have been singles bouts, where KOR’s record is 7-5. That might seem like a decent enough record given that AEW is Where The Best Wrestle, but let’s take a closer look at who exactly he has beaten.

O’Reilly’s seven wins have come at the expense of Bryan Keith, JD Drake, Rocky Romero, Lee Moriarty, KM, Jordan Cruz, and Anthony Henry. These are all low card guys or jobbers who rarely ever win on AEW television. O’Reilly’s five losses have come against Roderick Strong, Adam Copeland, Malakai Black, Will Ospreay, and Orange Cassidy. There’s a giant gap in the pecking order between these five guys and the seven wrestlers that Kyle has beaten.

These results indicate that KOR has yet to beat an important wrestler since returning to AEW. He’s really good at taking the top wrestlers to the limit but coming up just short at the end. That’s what will likely happen again tonight on Dynamite when he faces ZSJ, who has a more important match lined up with Orange Cassidy this Sunday at Forbidden Door. Roderick Strong and The Undisputed Kingdom seem to have a renewed interest in convincing O’Reilly to join back up with them. If Kyle continues to lose these kinds of matches that he will need to win in order to climb the ladder in AEW, perhaps he will give serious consideration to Roderick’s latest pitch for a change in direction. You’ll have to stay tuned to Dynamite to see if Kyle shows any signs of frustration as he settles into this role of being the guy who is really good at losing to the upper card stars in AEW.
