AEW recorded the highly anticipated Battle of the Belts XII special from the Adventist Health Arena in Stockton, California, on October 17th. It kicked off with AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada facing Kyle O’Reilly. In a tough, nearly 20-minute match, Okada secured the win after a hard-fought battle. Anna Jay pinned AEW Women’s Champion Mariah May, earning herself a future championship match. This concludes the tapings.

The incident happened on the October 16 episode of AEW Dynamite, where May was expressing her frustrations in a backstage interview. That, however stopped, when Anna Jay made her presence known. The two of them got involved in a verbal spat, following which both of them started brawling shortly. Eventually, May raised her hand on Christopher Daniels, who tried to separate the two of them. Following this incident, AEW announced the match between these two wrestlers for their upcoming special, Battle of the Belts. Both these individuals have had a strong run recently, with Anna Jay securing multiple victories over the past couple of weeks. Mariah May has also had a strong run so far, and is coming off a title defense against Willow Nightingale at AEW WrestleDream.
