Dynamite airs tonight (Apr. 9) with a live show from Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena in Baltimore, Maryland. This is the first episode of Dynamite during the seven week build towards Double or Nothing, which takes place on May 25.
The main event of Dynasty ended with the surprise return of the Young Bucks, who hit their finishing move on Swerve Strickland and helped Jon Moxley retain the AEW world championship. When we last saw Matthew and Nicholas Jackson on AEW programming last year, they ran away scared and abandoned the AEW locker room in its war against the Death Riders. The Bucks showed at Dynasty that nothing has really changed and they still don’t give a shit about doing what’s best for AEW, despite being EVPs of the company. As a result of their actions, the AEW world title is still being held hostage inside Moxley’s briefcase. Swerve is right back at it tonight on Dynamite when he steps in the ring for a singles match against PAC. After Swerve wins, I imagine he’ll get on the mic and let us know what else is on his mind besides “Fuck Booker T.”
Now that the Bucks are back in AEW, I bet that means it won’t be too long before Jack Perry also returns. Strickland will almost certainly need some friends to fight off The Elite. AEW International Champion Kenny Omega is one likely ally considering he still needs revenge on The Elite after they turned on him last year. Omega was confronted by AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada at Dynasty, so he’s already dealing with The Elite in that sense. The first round of the women’s Owen Hart tournament continues tonight with Kris Statlander vs. Thunder Rosa. AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm is on commentary for this bout with her x-rated limericks. The Opps found the main event of Dynasty to be lacking, so they ran in to neutralize the Death Riders’ numbers game. This now leads to a tag team match of Samoa Joe & HOOK vs. Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler on tonight’s show.
