Dynamite airs tonight (Oct. 2) with a live show from Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This is the fourth episode of Dynamite during the five week build towards WrestleDream, which takes place on October 12. The very first episode of AEW Dynamite aired live on Oct. 2, 2019, and that means the show is turning five years old tonight. According to President Tony Khan, you can expect a “significant overrun” for Dynamite’s 5th anniversary episode.
Bryan Danielson is defending the AEW world championship against Kazuchika Okada. Bryan and Okada have split their previous two matches, and they might be going at it for up to 60 minutes tonight during round three, as that’s the time limit for world title matches. The twist here is that Okada’s AEW Continental championship is also on the line, but only for the first 20 minutes, because that’s the time limit for matches for that belt. It’d be pretty surprising if either one of these titles changed hands tonight, so the most likely scenario is that Bryan will pick up the win after 20 minutes have lapsed and the Continental title is no longer on the line.
That all sounds like the recipe for a lengthy overrun. However, the part of Khan’s post that catches my attention the most is actually the very last sentence where he indicates another important announcement is coming. It was back in early September when Khan said there’s a 90% chance that AEW and WBD will officially announce their new TV deal over the next month. That month is almost up, so it’s pretty much time for the announcement to happen. This could be Tony’s way of saying that Dynamite is only getting started, and the best is yet to come.
Ricochet has a chip on his shoulder following his WWE exit and wants to prove that he deserves a bigger spotlight. Ospreay is the best wrestler in the world, so the pressure is on Ricochet to perform at the highest level and put on the kind of match that fans will be talking about for a very long time. Dynamite is in Pittsburgh tonight, and that’s probably why hometown hero Dr. Britt Baker DMD is booked in a match against Serena Deeb. Baker hasn’t wrestled since late August when she lost at Wembley Stadium, but she will almost certainly end up in the winners’ column tonight. Hangman Page and Juice Robinson had problems with each other during Grand Slam’s Lumberjack Strap match, so Hangman used the strap to hang Juice over the top rope. Juice gets his chance for payback tonight when he steps in the ring with Hangman in a singles match.
