AEW Full Gear 2024 is an upcoming Pay Per View event produced by All Elite Wrestling, which will take place on November 23, 2024 , at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. In many ways, Full Gear has been a turning point PPV for AEW since its inception. The PPV’s results have had ramifications that have rippled and changed the AEW landscape thereafter. Last year’s Full Gear fallout was controversial and creatively dissatisfying. A year on, a lot has changed, but a lot has also stayed the same.
A stacked card with storylines that, when condensed to Guns N Roses classic “November Rain”, streamlines the narratives to their core elements. While your enjoyment of the weekly TV product will vary, it’s hard to deny the caliber of AEW PPVs. They often end at nirvana even though the road there was potholed. Thinking about turning points, Mercedes Mone’s title defense against Kris Statlander feels like a match the CEO has needed to course-correct her initial AEW run. The catchphrase “Mone changes everything” has become an empty campaign slogan after a series of disappointments. Mercedes Mone, as a character, has struggled. Plastic promos and WWE-like scripting and acting have reduced her, along with some disappointing title defenses.
With Kris Statlander working at her current peak and able to carry opponents to their best match, there’s hope this one will steal the show. Separated from Stokely Hathaway, Statlander has stood by herself with confidence and feels more of the complete package as a character than she was last year. The potential wild card in this match is Kamille. The questionable booking of her ineffectiveness has felt counter-intuitive. Yet, is there a method to the madness? Either a turn on Mone or perhaps a replacement heater? The plan may be unveiled. A year on from Orange Cassidy’s redemption against Jon Moxley, the roles have reversed. Now, Moxley is the champion, and for only the second time in his AEW career, Cassidy reluctantly challenges for the AEW World Championship. Reluctantly. Perhaps the word of this month. Reluctant because as Cassidy has stated, every time he has faced the Blackpool Combat Club/Death Riders he has been changed. Physically bled and battered and demoralized and mentally pushed beyond his limitations. This is exactly what Moxley wants. To sharpen iron against iron. Break and reforge the weak material into something stronger.
