This Saturday, AEW looks to end 2024 with a decisive bang. A year after the inaugural AEW Worlds End, many things have changed creatively, but some issues remain. The most divisive storyline of 2023, The Devil storyline, which saw the end of MJF’s AEW World championship reign, concludes Saturday. It would be very AEW if the match hit nirvana-like peaks despite the hellish and potholed road to the PPV. The Continental Classic delivered on expectations after last year’s tournament. New stars have been made. Stories and character growth explored. Now, four remain.

The trilogy-ender between Will Ospreay vs. Kyle Fletcher finds both men bookending their 2024 with their roles reversed. At the forefront of The Don Callis Family, Fletcher is riding high with momentum and arrogance. Ospreay has evolved and grown into one of AEW’s premier babyfaces. However, as a consequence of elevating the AEW locker room, Ospreay had to scrape through the group stage. In the other semi, the battle is between two wrestlers trying to define themselves. Without his friends, The Elite, Kazuchika Okada, finds himself as “The Bitchmaker.” However, it’s “The Rainmaker” that many fans want to see. When Okada won the AEW Continental Championship, the emphasis on character over work rate on a roster of GOATs worked, but it’s time for change. On Saturday, Okada must step up in the ring to prove he is the greatest tournament wrestler of all time.

Jon Moxley’s paradigm shift is slowly achieving its goal. Lighting a fire under Orange Cassidy, “Hangman” Adam Page, and Jay White all are gunning to be the AEW World champion. While it’s caused The Death Riders to up the ante, the AEW roster is still divided. A new challenger has emerged for the AEW Women's Title after Mariah May beat Toni Storm so bad that she appears to have gone back in time. Thunder Rosa is gunning for the title now, posing a threat to May's reign unlike anything the still-young champion has faced before. Plus it will effectively be a home game for Rosa since the title will be defended in a Tiajuana Street Fight. Despite May admitting she doesn't know what a Tiajuana Street Fight is - you and me both, Mariah - the champion will retain in this match. May has proven herself to be a strong and significant champion in AEW, better than anyone would have expected. It's not time for her first reign of champion to end yet.
