Dynamite airs tonight (Feb. 12) with a taped show from Austin, Texas. This is the seventh episode of Dynamite during the ten week build towards AEW Revolution, which takes place on March 9.
The Death Riders story hasn’t been clicking for more than a couple of months, and it’s a pretty big drag on AEW programming as a whole when the world title scene is not very compelling. However, the world championship isn’t the only belt that’s lost some of its luster by being associated with the Death Riders. The AEW world trios championship is currently held by Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, and PAC. These guys are so caught up in serving as Jon Moxley’s henchmen and bailing his ass out of trouble that they haven’t actually defended the trios gold since early November, more than three months ago. It’s really been exposed as a pointless title when so much time can pass without a championship defense and it doesn’t matter one bit.
The Death Riders will finally defend the trios championship tonight on Dynamite against The Undisputed Kingdom’s Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, and Kyle O’Reilly. Cole’s group worked their way up to this title fight with trios wins against TNT Champion Daniel Garcia, Daddy Magic & Cool Hand Ang, as well as Shane Taylor Promotions. The Death Riders tried to ambush the Undisputed Kingdom last weekend on Collision, but the babyfaces fought them off and issued the challenge for tonight. Claudio warned that the Death Riders are the elite of the elite and will make an example out of them.
The Hurt Syndicate defend the AEW world tag team titles for the first time tonight on Dynamite when they take on Austin and Colten Gunn. It would be unusual for the Gunns to lose their return match in AEW, but it would be even more bizarre for Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin to lose the titles so quickly. Max Caster’s “Best Wrestler Alive” open challenge will be featured on Dynamite. The story here seems to be this open challenge gimmick will actually expose Max as one of the worst singles wrestlers in AEW. MJF’s battle with All Elderly Wrestling continues tonight when he goes one-on-one with 55-year-old Dustin Rhodes.
